AUTOMOBILE LIABILITY INSURANCE:

Insures against loss through legal liability for bodily injury or property damage, caused by accident, and arising out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of motor vehicles.

BOBTAIL OR DEAD HEADING LIABILITY COVERAGE:

Less frequently identified by its proper title: Truckers Insurance For Nontrucking Use, this protection is provided for independent truckers who normally operate their equipment under lease with large trucking companies and need bobtail insurance for exposures not related to carrying property in a business, hauling someone else's trailers or operating under a lease arrangement; "in between" driving.

PHYSICAL DAMAGE COVERAGE:

Insures operator's motor vehicles from physical damage from fire, theft and other causes of loss, including glass breakage and collision.

EMPLOYERS NONOWNERSHIP AUTOMOBILE LIABILITY:

Protects the employer to the extent of liability imposed by law and within policy limits against claims for accidents due to employees and other agents operating their own automobiles in the employer's interest.

HIRED CARS:

Covers the liability for the insured on any vehicle that is hired by the insured.  A car must be hired for less than six months in order to be considered hired and not leased.

TRUCKERS COVERAGE FORM:

Provides the needed liability and physical damage coverages for risks falling under the manual definition of "trucker.  Minimum automobile liability insurance requirements are set by state and federal supervisory agencies, with whom filings must be made in compliance. Coverages under this and similar auto insurance designed for truckers include:

Liability coverage, applicable to bodily injury or property damage arising from the named insured's ownership, maintenance or use of a covered auto. It is notable that coverage extends to the owner of a trailer while it is connected to a covered auto that is a power unit..

Trailer Interchange coverage, pertinent to a written agreement requiring one trucker (the named insured) to reimburse another for damage to the other's owned trailer while in the named insured's possession

Physical damage coverage is applicable to covered autos.  Comprehensive coverage or specified causes of loss coverage and collision coverage are options.

 CARGO INSURANCE:

Most states require a cargo insurance policy for intrastate shipments. Insurance carriers are usually required to file copies of policies used in writing this business with the state insurance department and the Federal Highway Administration.
